Talentime is another Malaysian movie from Yasmin Ahmad that received a lot of attention. Talentime is a beautiful movie about being Malaysian. It is about the different races and cultures, falling in love, friendship, family and how Malaysians live their lives. The story is simple, yet deeply moving. Talentime is about the tale of two hearts - that of Melur, a Malay girl and an Indian male student, Mahesh who meet at a high school talent search competition. Melur, with her melodious voice, singing and pianist is one of the seven finalists of the competition of her school. Mahesh and Melur strike a relationship and keep it from his mother who is grieving from Ganesh, her brother’s death. Ganesh died on his wedding day after a misunderstanding with a grieving Malay family.
